Description
Financial exploitation of older and vulnerable adults presents significant challenges for families, financial institutions, and professionals working to prevent fraud.
Lyn Scott, CEO of Guardianship Services, Inc., and Dat Nguyen, a Texas Wesleyan University’s graduate and former GSI accounting intern, will explore common financial scams, the importance of preventive financial oversight, and the role of accounting professionals in protecting vulnerable adults.
Drawing on GSI's direct service experience and Dat's internship, the presentation will highlight practical fraud prevention strategies, real-world applications of accounting skills, and the growing influence of artificial intelligence on the fraud landscape.
Speaker Information
Lyn Scott has served as Chief Executive Officer of Guardianship Services, Inc. (GSI) in Fort Worth since 2016. GSI is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and empowering aging and vulnerable adults through guardianship, money management, and financial exploitation prevention services.
As a Certified Guardian, Lyn also leads GSI's Financial Exploitation Prevention Center and co-leads the Texas Elder Justice Coalition, bringing together professionals across disciplines to strengthen elder justice education, prevention, and collaboration.
Lyn holds an Executive MBA from Texas Woman's University and a bachelor's degree from Texas Wesleyan University. Her professional background includes executive leadership in nonprofit management, finance, banking, and operations.
Dat Nguyen is a Senior Tax Associate with Sproles Woodard LLP in Fort Worth, Texas. He earned both his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Master of Business Administration from Texas Wesleyan University and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in Texas.
Prior to entering public accounting, Dat served as an Accounting Intern with Guardianship Services, Inc., where he supported the Money Management Program through bank reconciliations, representative payee reporting, and internal control initiatives. His experience at GSI sparked a lasting interest in fraud prevention, financial stewardship, and using technology to strengthen financial safeguards.
Today, Dat works with a diverse range of individuals, nonprofits, trusts, estates, and business entities, bringing a strong foundation in accounting, risk assessment, and financial analysis to his work.
